This semester I have really enjoyed working with swimwear. This is my second time learning stretch. It still is not second nature to me yet but I would serious consider doing this for my 3rd year collection. So much fun you can have with print.
The hardest thing to sew was the Jacket. The peplum was the trickiest to attach. As it had to line up. on both sides with tucks included just to make it more difficult.
I had a mild success getting this jacket completed with my sanity in tact. Of all the pieces it is the most technical and challenging piece. ( not my best sewing) However due to my time management plan I had to press forward. There would definitely be a few things I would like to unpick and sew again. But for this assessment it will do. It is more like a second toile than a commerical salebable garment at this stage.
Really happy with this garment.
It was design to also be functional as I would like to wear it, especially as their are not many options for rashie top this jacket will be great at the beach the avoid the sun.
Was very surprised that I actually like my tube skirt and I think I do look good in it!! Totally never thought I would. So really happy with that outcome. I think this skirt works well as I have lined it so it doesn't show any lumps and bumps. I am going to wear it with a grey jersey T-shirt tucked in.
Upon reflection of the top of my swimsuit. I now feel the white panel with the spot detail looks disconnected from the pants. I would like to substitute this white panel with the motif print. That way the print coordinates with the pants.
Perhaps not the most commercially viable collection. It is quite loud and possible to loud for most people. This collection would need to be watered down and made alittle more predictable to sell well.
As most customers just want to look good and not stand out (speaking from my own thoughts).
Might even do a facebook like or dislike page! To get people feed back.
Really need to work on my editing eye for final year. Need to seek advice on this.... will talk to lectures about this issue.

Capsule Knitwear Collection
Six piece capsule knitwear collection spring/summer 2013 |
Really not sure about how I feel about this collection. Some days I love it some days I hate it. I could spend hours upon hours reflecting and changing things but sometimes the best design are not over thought.
So where it is. I have designed this collection to be in summer. Knitwear is so fantastic to wear all year round. It is comfortable. Doesn't need ironing. and pretty low maintenance when it come to laundering.
For this collection I want to take the initial brief from our swimwear collection and translate and evolve into a knitwear collection. As my design from the swimwear were inspired by the colours and textiles of India so too in my knitwear collection.
My my original prints I have simplified them to be used in a knitwear pattern. The two major patterns used in this collection is the zig zag and spot knit.
I have used both prints in weaved knit pattern designs and also as prints on the jersey fabrics.
Early research into how and what I wanted to do I was looking at doing 3d spots on my knits. After some thought and sampling I decided not to go down this route as I wanted something that was more practical and commercially viable.

Sewing Time -swimwear reflection
Fitting pattern pieces to my fabric. |
The beautiful Gillian hand modeling for me. |
Sewing the sharp angle is really tricky. Thankfully Gillian was there to guide me. |
Sewing on the zip for my jacket. In my toile the zipp worked out to be too long. Everything fit this time. |
Jacket with zipp and collar. Now time to sew up the sides! |
Sides sewn up. |
Love my jacket. Still have to add the peplum. But I kind of just want to leave it like this... Love how the spot fabric looks like a gold background. |
Back of my swimsuit. Now I just have to make the skirt and sew on the peplum to the jacket. |
But have had to press forward in order to get everything done in a timely manner.
Sewing is definitely not my strongest point. A lot of basic sewing steps that seem logical to a sewer really just goes right over my head. Poor Gillian (Our swimsuit lecturer/technician) has to explain basic steps to me three to four times and even then I feel like I am just going through the motions but not really sure of what I'm doing. It's like I have a sift for a brain when it comes to sewing.
The first day back to uni after deferring for a year. I sat down at a sewing machine next to my class mate Hannah and was bewildered as to why my machine wasn't working. Hannah politely point out that I had not put my bobbin into the bobbin case!!!!! Instead I had just put the bobbin in and tried to start sewing.
Bless her for not laughing at me... well... at least not to my face! LOL.

I’ve always had a thing for pom poms. I love them on just about anything. They are so cute and fluffy. Just plain old adoreable. Can we attach them all over a knit top? How would that work? It would look pretty cool though.
